About the configurator

By Jan Rockrohr · Last updated: 6 October 2026

The Bike Configurator is a free RockIT Tools project for exploring a road or time trial build. It brings the frame photograph, factory paint finishes, wheel selection, rim depths, groupset comparison and estimated complete-bike weight into one view.

What you can compare

The catalogue includes road and TT / triathlon models from Canyon, Cervélo, Orbea, Colnago, Trek and Factor. Paint choices use photographs of the finishes in the catalogue. Wheel options cover DT Swiss ARC DICUT, ENVE SES and Zipp NSW, including a front-wheel / rear-disc combination. Front and rear rim depths can differ; the depth picker shows the pair.

How the preview works

Rather than recolouring a generic drawing, the preview combines photographic layers. The frame photograph is aligned using its wheel centres and tyre radius. Separate wheel photographs are positioned at those centres, beneath a mask that keeps the fork, stays, drivetrain and tyres in front where appropriate.

All bikes use a common visual wheel scale so you can compare their appearance. This is a normalized preview, not a dimensioned frame-size drawing. Small differences in camera angle, lighting and the photographed build remain visible. A photographic composite cannot demonstrate clearances or the precise look of a finished workshop build.

Sources and corrections

Manufacturer specifications and identified component references support the frame and wheel figures. Groupset masses are rounded complete-kit estimates, rather than manufacturer-published totals. The product-source links under the configurator and the weight details identify the models, photographs and measurement assumptions. The guide explains how to read these figures.

Where a complete-bike reference is available, wheel and groupset selections replace their reference masses while retaining the remaining build. Otherwise, the tool adds frame, wheel and groupset references to explicitly estimated other components. Unpublished frame or factory-wheel masses are marked as assumptions in the breakdown. Paint-related mass differences are not measured by this tool.

If a source changes, an image represents a different generation, or you find an alignment problem, please send a correction with the model, paint and wheel choice. The catalogue is a selected set of references, not a promise that every product or paint is currently available for purchase.

Use conditions

The site provides visual comparisons and reference estimates. It does not sell products, reserve stock, give a binding price, certify aerodynamic performance or approve component compatibility. Before buying or assembling a bike, check the exact frame size, tyre and rim combination, hub dimensions, cassette body, brake interfaces and clearances with the manufacturer or a qualified bike shop.

Weights vary with size, finish, groupset, fitted equipment and the manufacturer's measurement basis. The displayed complete-bike estimate excludes pedals and does not include the rider, luggage, tools or drinks. A scale measurement of the actual build is the way to establish its actual mass.

The tool and guides are maintained independently by Jan Rockrohr. Brand names identify the products being compared and do not imply manufacturer affiliation or endorsement. Original explanatory text is provided for reading and using this tool; third-party product photographs and trademarks retain their respective owners' rights.
